Stella Steyn
Artist Bio
Steyn’s first solo exhibition was held at the Dublin Painter’s Gallery in 1928. She exhibited 19 works at the Royal Hibernian Academy between 1927 and 1930. In 1931, she enrolled at the Bauhaus in Germany, becoming the first known Irish artist to study at the school.
After marrying David Ross, a professor of French, the couple lived in England. Steyn rarely exhibited, often staying out of the public sphere. A retrospective exhibition of her work was held at the Gorry Gallery in 1995, and The Molesworth Gallery in 2001.
