Artist Bio

Rita Duffy RUA Rita Duffy was born in Belfast in 1959. She studied art & design, then received a masters in fine art, at the University of Ulster. Her subject matter is typically autobiographical relating to Irish identity and politics, depicted through a style of surrealism and magic realism.

Duffy was made an Honorary Member of the Royal Society of Ulster Architects for development work, and elected an associate of Goldsmiths College in London for her collaboration with Argentina on the role of art in post conflict societies. In 2018, Duffy was recognised for her contribution to visual arts in Ireland and elected to Aosdana. Her work is held in public collections such as the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the Ulster Museum, The Drawing Museum, New York and the Office of Public Works, Dublin, along with numerous private collections.
