Patrick Hennessy was born in August 1915 in Cork. After the death of his father, his mother re-married and Hennessy moved to Scotland with his family in 1921 where he later attended Dundee College of Art. After gaining much academic recognition at Dundee, Hennessy was awarded the 1938/1939 travelling scholarship which enabled him to travel around Italy and Paris. Hennessy was a keen traveller, working his way around Europe. In 1939 Hennessy returned to Ireland and split his time between Cork and Dublin. He had several solo exhibitions in Dublin, London and Chicago and his work is held in many public collections across Ireland including the National Gallery and Ulster Museum. In 1949 Patrick Hennessy was elected a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. Eventually, Hennessy moved away from Ireland, living in Morocco from the 1970s. Hennessy passed away in London in 1980.
