Muriel Brandt ARHA

Muriel Brandt was a portrait, mural and landscape painter born in Belfast. She was educated at the Belfast College of Art and then won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art in London. It was here that she entered the mural decoration department.

1938, was the beginning of Brandt’s forty year relationship with the Royal Hibernian Academy where over this space of time she showed 145 works, showing portraits at virtually all of the exhibitions. In 1943, she exhibited for the first time at the Water Colour Society of Ireland and continued to do so from then on.

In 1948, Brandt was appointed as an associate of the Royal Hibernian Academy, becoming a full member in 1961. She lived in Dublin for the majority of her life and occupied her time by painting mural decorations, portraits and landscapes.
