Marie Carroll was born in St. John’s Wood, London. She attended Goldsmith College of Art before spending time in both Paris and Switzerland. Upon her return to London, Carroll began to paint professionally, exhibiting across many London galleries. During the 1970s, she moved to Ireland and was inspired by the country’s landscapes and cities, particularly Dublin. Carroll prefers working en plein air which allows for a spontaneity within her work. The impressionist influences in Carroll’s painting are apparent in her colourful depictions of both city scenes and seascapes.
