Artist Bio

John Arthur Lomax was a genre painter, born in Manchester. He studied in Stuttgart and at the Munich Academy, then returned to Manchester and later relocated to London. His subjects were of a historical genre, especially of the Civil War period, often with dramatic, sentimental, or humorous themes. Lomax exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, the Walker Art Gallery, Manchester City Art Gallery, Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
