James Howard Burgess RHA
Artist Bio
James Howard Burgess (1810-1890) was based in Carrickfergus, County Antrim for many years and so most of his illustrations are of Northern Ireland. However, he also included England and Scotland in his subject matter. A few of his published images produced a guide to the Giants’ Causeway.
To make a living, James had a drawing academy set up in Belfast. Samples of his work can be seen in the Linen Hall Library, the Ulster Museum, the Belfast Harbour Office and the National Library of Ireland, Dublin.
