Artist Bio

In 1992, Charlesworth graduated from De Montfort University, Leicester in Fine Art. He continued his studies at the University of Ulster, undertaking a master’s in fine art followed by a PhD in 2006 and completed a fellowship at the British School in Rome.

Charlesworth’s work has been included in the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, and the American University Museum, also in Washington, DC. He has also been featured in multiple art fairs and biennials. His work encompasses various mediums, one of which includes moving a burning candle along the surface at different speeds to produce line works. He has described these as ‘specifically concerned with maintaining a direct link between the artist's body and the 'gestural' mark, whilst at the same time acknowledging the difficulty in communicating psychological or expressive content'.
