Cherith McKinstry RUA
Artist Bio

Cherith McKinstry (1928-2004) was born in a village in Worcestershire and studied at the Belfast College of Art with Terence Flanagan and lifelong friend Basil Blackshaw.
Throughout her career she painted abstract, still life and figurative works, along with some sculpting in her earlier days. She received a key commission from the Belfast Opera House where she painted six large panels for the building’s auditorium.
Her art work takes influence from religion, themes of suffering and inhumanity, along with her travels to France and Italy. McKinstry exhibited regularly with the RHA throughout the 1990s and was awarded an Honorary MA from Queens University Belfast in 1987.
