Charles Oakley

Charles Oakley (1925-2008) was born in Manchester and is known for painting and sculpture. He attended the Slade School of Fine Art in London where he was awarded the Sir Richard Taylor and Melvill Nettleship prizes and was presented with the Wilson Steer Medal. Oakley was head lecturer at Newcastle Polytechnic, taught at Eden School in Carlisle and was a lecturer at the Ulster University of Fine Art. Aside from his career as an educator and painter, he worked as Assistant Head Designer for Ferguson Fabrics.
The artist exhibited at Castlegate House, the Royal Academy and the New English Art Club, he also owned a prestigious London Gallery in Mayfair.
