Artist Bio

William Curran was born in Dublin on the 30th of December 1919. For 6 years, he apprenticed as a lithographic artist and designer and at this time he also attended the College of Art in Dublin studying commercial art under Professor Bernardus Romein. He worked for Browne and Nolan printers in Clonskeagh until 1953 when he went freelance, working with printing offices, advertising agencies and companies such as Guinness and CIE.

In the late 1950s, Curran worked for O’Kennedy Brindley advertising agency and then joined O’Keefes. In 1964, he married and moved to his wife’s hometown of Belfast where he worked for Well’s advertising and later McConnell’s. He was also an expert calligrapher and designed two typefaces that were produced by Letraset. In his free time he exhibited and sold many paintings, working most often in watercolour. He died in Belfast on the 12th November 2016.
