William Crampton Gore (1871-1946) graduated from medicine at Trinity College Dublin (1897) and worked for several years as a surgeon before giving it up to paint professionally. He studied in London at The Slade under Henry Tonks (1900-1904) where he became friendly with Sir William Orpen and Augustus John, the latter of which he would eventually share a studio with.

In 1905 he began exhibiting with the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) of which he was made a full member in 1918. Along with the RHA, Gore’s work has exhibited with the Paris Salon, the Fine Art society, the Limerick City Gallery of Art and the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin.
