Tom McEwan RSW

Thomas McEwan (1846-1914) was a Glasgow born painter who focused mainly on domestic scenes. Having an amateur artist for a father influenced his interest in art, leading to him serving as an apprentice for a time as a pattern designer and attend evening classes at the Glasgow School of Art under Robert Greenlees. There is evidence of Dutch influence in his work particularly from Dutch painter Jozef Israëls.
McEwan exhibited with the Royal Glasgow Institute, was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (1883) and was the President of the Glasgow Art Club for a number of years.
