Robin Buick RHA

Robin Buick is an accomplished sculptor who has stayed true to the Classical Tradition and aims to revive this movement to its former popularity. He was born in Ballymena, Co. Antrim in 1940 and graduated from Trinity College, Dublin with a Hons BA degree in Economics. His interest in art came about shortly after but since he had not completed an art degree he sought instruction from sculptors David Wynne in London and Milton Hebal in Rome. From 1984 onwards he began sculpting full time and in 1988 was offered a scholarship at The New York Academy where he studied for a year. Whilst at the start of his career Buick showed interest in impressionistic figure sculpting, this has transitioned to a devotion to the classical and the Classical Realist movement.

Buick has had a multitude of both one-man shows and group exhibitions with the former category including exhibits in the Bruton Street Gallery, London (1996 and 2001), The Jonathan Swift Gallery, Carrickfergus (1994) and Brennanstown House. Notable group shows include those with the Royal Hibernian Academy’s annual exhibition (from 1997) and the Banquet exhibition (from 1991).
