Richard Kingston RHA

Richard Kingston (1922-2003) studied arts and engineering at Trinity College, working as a teacher and a designer in London before returning to Ireland to paint full time. He took influence from American Abstract Expressionism, one of the first Irish artists to do so, and felt inspired by nature, particularly the Irish countryside. Kingston first exhibited with the RHA in 1962, becoming a member in 1980, and was also elected to the Board of Governors of the National Gallery of Ireland from 1982 to 1989.

He has held solo exhibitions at the Hendricks Gallery in Dublin and the Leicester Galleries in London, along with representing Ireland in various international shows. The artist founded his own gallery, the Wellington Gallery in Ballsbridge in the 1970s where he exhibited regularly and his work is held in public and private collections across Ireland, the UK, Canada, Japan, Australia and the US.
