Artist Bio

John Long is a painter, lecturer and teacher born in 1964 in Portadown, Co. Armagh. He studied at the Belfast College of Art and Design before pursuing a Higher Diploma in painting at Slade School of Fine Art under Euan Uglow. He was an artist in residence at the Byam Shaw School of Art (1990-1991), becoming a senior lecturer at Canterbury University in Kent.
Long is a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy, exhibiting with them regularly, and has had work exhibited with Theo Waddington Fine Art, the Royal College of Art in London and Jorgensen Fine Art. The artist has been presented with the Taylor de Vere award (1993) and has received awards from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland (1993, 1994).
