John F. Hunter RUA ARCA

John F. Hunter (1893-1951) was born in Manchuria, China as the son of an Irish Presbyterian church missionary. He moved to Ireland to study at Trinity College in Dublin and then the Royal College of Art.

Hunter is known for his wood engravings and landscape pictures, some of which are shown in the Ulster Museum and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. He served in both world wars, was the President of the Ulster Academy of Arts, became inspector of art to the Ministry of Education (1923) and was awarded the OBE.
