Evie Hone HRHA

Evie Hone (1894-1955), born Eva Sydney Hone in Dublin, was a painter and stained glass artist. She studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art and then the Central School of Arts and Crafts under Bernard Meninsky. Spending time first in Paris working under André Lhote and Albert Gleizes, she then returned to Ireland and played a major role in founding the Irish Exhibition of Living Art.

Hone had strong religious beliefs, residing for a period in an Anglican Convent (1925) and converting to Catholicism in 1937. This is believed to have influenced her decision to work with stained glass. She studied this medium under Wilhelmina Geddes and became a member of the An Túr Gloine stained glass co-operative, before setting up her own studio in Rathfarnham.

From December 2005 to June 2006, an exhibition of her work was on display at the National Gallery of Ireland.
