Artist Bio

Dublin born painter Desmond Carrick studied under Seán Keating and Maurice MacGonigal at the National College of Art, Dublin. He won the coveted Taylor Scholarship in 1956 which facilitated a trip to Spain, shaping his eye for light and colour. In 1968, he was elected a full member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. His role as secretary for the academy in the late 1970s played a crucial role in transforming the academy into its present role of exhibiting modern art. He sat on various academy committees and was central to the process of electing new members, as well as the coordination of the annual show, in which he exhibited since 1951.
