Colin H. Davidson

Colin H. Davidson was born in 1961 in Donaghadee, County Down but now resides in East Belfast. Though mainly a self-taught artist, Davidson did attend a local college for a short time. It was here that he discovered his slight colour blindness, making it difficult to identify certain green and brown tones. Serving a four-year apprenticeship in Harland & Wolff seems to have had a profound influence on the artist, who has expressed his sincere respect for the men and women employed there and the hardships they suffered. This experience can be directly understood in his paintings which often focus on scenes of ship workers in Belfast. Davidson claims inspiration from modern day impressionist Edward Seago, Trevor Chamberlain, and American modernist, Edward Hopper.
