Cecil Maguire RUA

Born in Armagh in 1930, Cecil Maguire was a landscape and figure painter. He graduated from Queen’s University in 1951 before taking a teaching post at Lurgan College. Maguire continued to paint as a hobby but after retiring in 1981, he began to focus more on his art.

Maguire began exhibiting with the Royal Ulster Academy in 1971, later becoming a member in 1974. He has exhibited with the Kenny Gallery in Galway, the Oriel Gallery in Dublin and the Bell Gallery in Belfast. He was presented with several awards including the Silver Medal twice (1964, 1967) and the Gold Medal (1974) from the RUA, as well as the Conor Prize (1968).
