Artist Bio
Born in London, Arthur Hopkins (1848-1930) was a landscape and genre painter as well as an accomplished illustrator. Educated first at Lancing College in Sussex, he went on to study at Royal Academy Schools. Anthony was part of the rising generation of illustrators, taking influence from Du Maurier and William Small.
He exhibited regularly with the Royal Watercolour Society, of which he became a member, the Royal Academy and other important London academies. Hopkins greatest successes however were his illustrations which were in publications such as the London News (1872-1898), The Graphic (1874-1876) and Punch (1893-1902), along with book illustrations for Thomas Hardy and Wilkie Collins.
