Artist Bio

Alice Berger Hammerschlag was an abstract painter and designer born in Vienna and was educated at the Vienna Academy of Arts under Professor Cizek. With troubles in Austria in 1938, Hammerschlag travelled to Northern Ireland where she was commissioned to do stage set designs in Belfast and Dublin.
In 1956, Queen’s University Belfast organised a solo exhibition for Alice and due to the success, four more exhibitions were held here. Her work went on to be exhibited in places such as Belfast, London, Manchester, New York, Rome, Derry, Florida and Paris.
