Melanie Le Brocquy RHA

Melanie Le Brocquy was born in 1919, Dublin and was educated at the National College of Art & Design, Dublin, and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Geneva. Having also studied at the Royal Hibernian Academy School of Art, Melanie showed a sculpture here in 1938 and was then awarded a prize for the best bronze casting in 1995.

 

In 1943, 65, 67, 71, Melanie contributed her works to the Exhibition of Living Art as well as other exhibitions around Ireland. She was awarded two Taylor scholarships; the California Gold Medal (1939) and the Claremorris Open Exhibition prize in 1991. In 1999, the RHA held a major retrospective for Le Brocquy, highlighting what Le Brocquy had achieved.
