Artist Bio

Harry Epwroth Allen was a Sheffield based artist who painted professionally from 1931 onwards.  Born in 1894 he studied first at King Edward VII School for Boys and then at Sheffield Technical School of Art.  After a brief career working in the steel industry and a stint in the army during the First World War, for which he was awarded the military medal for conspicuous gallantry, he turned to focus on painting. Allen began to work prolifically. He joined the Yorkshire Group of Artists, became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1934 and exhibited across the United Kingdom. Often working in tempera, the artist frequently revisited the rural landscapes of both England and Ireland in his work, constantly returning to depictions of rural life and figures. Harry Epworth Allen died in 1958.
